Control and Instrumentation
TIBS control and instrumentation department can design, supply and install a wide range of C&I packages for all steam boiler plant related applications. Our expertise is in designing one off special applications, system updates and interface packages to systems already installed. We also have C&I engineers who are experienced on burner controls and can carry out diagnostic checks on the interface between the boiler controls and the burner controls, to ensure both systems are working correctly.

INTERFACE TO EXISTING C&I SCHEMES
We are experienced at installing new burners and providing the necessary C&I modifications to ensure the burner control communicates correctly with the boiler control panel. Our C&I engineers are also experienced at updating existing boilerhouse control systems to 72h unmanned operation, by installing and programming interfaces to control room based systems.
DESIGN, SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF CONTROL PANELS
The C&I department are experienced at designing and building a range of control panels for steam boiler plant applications using Siemens or Allen Bradley PLC's. The team can also design and program the graphical user interfaces to meet the customer visual requirements.
BOILER CONTROL SCHEME CONVERSIONS
The C&I department can convert pneumatic boiler control schemes to modern electronic boiler control packages.
BURNER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
The C&I department can design, supply and install bespoke burner management systems (BMS) and interfaces for oil, gas or dual fuel boiler firing applications.
The C&I department can design, supply, install and commission distributed control schemes making use of propriety SCADA software and programmable controllers. Typical applications could be remote monitoring, control of district heating schemes, boiler plant control or energy monitoring.
The C&I department can design, supply and install trace heating systems for external pipework using fluids which can be subjected to freezing in winter. A typical application carried out by TIBS is a district heating scheme with water passing through external pipework circuits, which could freeze if the system was switched-off or the temperature went below freezing.
TYPICAL BOILER CONTROL APPLICATION
"Shrink & swell" is a boiler control problem usually associated with sudden high process steam demands that cause rapid water level changes within the steam drum. If the water level control system is not able to anticipate the changes early enough then serious damage to the plant will occur. This phenomenon can be controlled by implementing a three element drum level control philosophy. TIBS have successfully designed, installed & commissioned many three element drum level control systems world-wide.
