Viridor Exeter

In 2013 Thorne International Boiler Services Ltd (TIBS) were appointed by Group TIRU to design and install all high pressure and low pressure steam / water pipework for a Waste to Energy plant owned by Viridor and Exeter City Council. The 3.5MWe ERF plant in Exeter was expected to supply around 5,000 homes with energy and have the facility to provide CHP heating to local homes and companies.

TIBS designed, supplied and installed the connecting pipework and control and instrumentation packages between the steam turbine, deaerater and water treatment plant.

The work involved designing detailed drawings of the pipework routings including the sizing of valves, steam traps and pumps, using our in-house design team. Again our in-house fitters and coded welders completed the installation.

The TIBS C&I department designed, supplied and installed the control and instrumentation packages using in-house generated P&ID drawings and also designed and installed the cabling packages.

The Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) has been operational since July 2014 and the facility uses up to 60,000 tonnes per year of non-recyclable waste from households across Devon.
